In the video, the professor encourages college students to take challenging classes to grow their intelligence. The Chinese Ministry of Education also promotes the construction of “golden courses”, i.e. high-level, innovative, and challenging courses.

What do you think makes a challenging course? What are the benefits of taking challenging classes? Share with your classmates your learning experiences if you have taken such courses before.  

Possible answer:

As I see it,a challenging course should be exciting, interesting and inspiring. The course should also be well-organized and logically delivered. 

There are many benefits in taking a difficult course. First of all, students may discover new abilities as they challenge their limits. They may learn that they are capable of more than they thought. Meanwhile, even though a challenging course may be a struggle, students can learn important coping skills and strategies, which are highly desired in the job market. 

I have taken a quite difficult philosophy course this semester. Some of the philosophical views seem to be too abstract to understand. Yet I gained a great sense of achievement when I figured them out. I won’t be easily intimidated by challenges in the future
