We walked to the harbor, the early morning sun just beginning to burn pink through the fog. We had come to say goodbye.
“Bye, sailboats,” Mom said. My little brother, Ben, waved his fist. “Goodbye, harbor,” Dad said. I remembered clouds of seagulls following the fishing boats, hoping to snap up shellfish tossed overboard. “Any last farewells, Marissa?” Dad asked me. I bit my lower lip. Goodbye, home.
When Mom and Dad had announced we were moving, Dad said we were going “home.” He meant out west, where Grandma and Grandpa had raised him along with lots of chickens and cattle. “The desert is beautiful in its own way,” Dad said. I tried to smile. But I knew mountains would only stand between me and the rosy sun rising over the ocean. “We’ll find new things to love,” Mom promised. But I knew I’d never love anything as much as waking up to the sound of a seagull’s cry.
After five days of driving across rolling prairie, we saw mountaintops on the horizon. On day six, we pulled into Grandpa’s dusty driveway. I sighed. Now this was our house, until Mom and Dad could find a new one to buy.
I took the attic bedroom with pink wallpaper covering the ceiling. The night before I went to school, I pulled my notebook out from under the bed. I had started a list of Old Things I Miss: the salt scent instead of farm stink, seagulls instead of chickens, friends to play with instead of only Ben. I flipped the page over, where I had started another list: New Things I Love. It was still blank. That night I dreamed of seagulls calling, their cries rising and falling with the wind. They sailed across the sky, following the fishing boats.
注意:
1.写作词数应为150个左右;
The next morning, I opened my eyes to the ceiling, but I still heard seagulls.
Dad told me that these desert seagulls had come here 150 years ago.
第一段(以“The next morning, I opened my eyes to the ceiling, but I still heard seagulls.”
第二段(以“Dad told me that these desert seagulls had come here 150 years ago.”

The next morning, I opened my eyes to the ceiling, but I still heard seagulls. At first, I dismissed it as a lingering dream fragment, the harbor’s echo clinging to my subconscious. Yet the cry persisted, clear and vivid, cutting through the desert’s hush. I swung my legs over the bed, fingers trembling as I fumbled for the doorknob. Stepping onto the porch, I froze—white wings danced against the dawn’s blush, their calls weaving a familiar melody. "No way," I murmured, voice trembling, "They’re just like the seagulls back home." I clutched my notebook tightly, rushing to Dad, with Ben trailing behind, curious about what had caught my attention.
Dad told me that these desert seagulls had come here 150 years ago, traversing vast distances to settle by rare waterholes. “They’ve learned to thrive here, just like we will,” he said, clapping my shoulder with a knowing smile. Mom joined us, holding warm muffins, and smiled as we watched the birds soar. As their warmth sank in, a glow unfurled in my chest. Staring at the soaring birds, the desert no longer felt alien. I scribbled “desert seagulls & my family’s smiles” onto the blank page. In that instant, I understood: home is wherever loved ones are, and beauty blooms when we embrace the unfamiliar.
At first, I dismissed it as a lingering dream fragment, the harbor’s echo clinging to my subconscious.
赏析:用 “lingering dream fragment” 和 “clinging to my subconscious” 精准刻画 “我” 初听鸟鸣时的恍惚,将思乡的执念具象化;后文从 “murmur, voice trembling” 的惊讶,到 “a glow unfurled in my chest” 的温暖,情感层层递进,符合人物心境转变的逻辑。
1:I clutched my notebook tightly, rushing to Dad, with Ben trailing behind, curious about what had caught my attention.
2:Mom joined us, holding warm muffins, and smiles as we watched the birds soar.
Yet the cry persisted, clear and vivid, cutting through the desert’s hush.
赏析:“persists”“cutting through”“hush” 均为书面高级词汇,现在分词短语作伴随状语,句式简洁且富有动态感,比简单句 “but the cry was clear in the quiet desert” 更具表现力。
In that instant, I understood: home is wherever loved ones are, and beauty blooms when we embrace the unfamiliar.
