T: Yes! A cart and some nice hats. Look, a man is pushing the cart. What do you think he does? You can talk with your deskmate first.

S1: He sells hats.
T: Wow, good guess! He is a hat seller (板书并领读). Today we will learn a funny story about the hat seller and some monkeys. The story is Hats and Monkeys. (板书标题，领读2遍) Let’s say it together: Hats and Monkeys.

Step 2 Pre-reading （读前感知）7mins
T: Now, let’s look at the picture of the tree. (展示课件树上猴子的图片) How many monkeys are in the tree? Count with me, one, two...
Ss: One, two, three, four. Four monkeys!
T: Correct! Four monkeys are in the tree. The hat seller is by the tree, and the monkeys are in the tree. What interesting thing will happen between them? Can you guess?

S2: The monkeys like the hats.
S3: The monkeys take the hats.
T: Great guesses! Let’s check your ideas later. Before reading, let’s learn some new words and phrases for the story. (展示课件词汇)
First, sell /sel/ (领读) → mean: 卖，售出。I sell books. He sells hats.
Second, make money (领读) → mean: 赚钱。Sell hats, make money. (师生一起说)
Third, himself (领读) → mean: 他自己。The man talks to himself.
Fourth, try on (领读) → important: 代词放中间，try them on (指着帽子图片)。

Part 1 The tired hat seller
T: Now, let’s watch and listen to Part 1 carefully. (播放课件Part Ⅰ音频/动画)
After watching
T: Now answer my questions. First, What has the man got?
Ss: He has got nice hats.
T: Second, What can he do?
Ss: He can sell the hats and make some money.
T: Third, How does he feel at first?
Ss: He is so happy.
T: Perfect! And what’s the weather like today?
Ss: It’s so hot.
T: So the man is tired. What does he do?
Ss: He sits by a tree.
T: Great! Let’s read Part 1 together. I read the man’s words, you follow me. Ready?

Part 2 Monkeys take the hats
T: The man sits by the tree and he sleeps. What happen next? Let’s watch Part 2. (播放课件Part Ⅱ音频/动画)
After watching
T: Let’s answer. What do the monkeys do while the man is sleeping?
Ss: They get the man’s hats and try them on.
T: Good! And what do the monkeys think of themselves?
Ss: They think they are cool.
T: Exactly! Remember the phrase try on? The monkeys try them on, not try on them. Very good. Let’s read Part 2 in four groups. Each group is one monkey. Ready?

Part 3 The angry man
T: The man wakes up. Let’s watch Part 3 and find out how he feels. (播放课件Part Ⅲ音频/动画)
After watching
T: How does the man feel? Let’s choose: 1. Sad 2. Afraid 3. Angry.
Ss: 3. Angry!
T: Why is he angry?
Ss: Because the monkeys took his hats.
T: Right! We use the phrase be angry with (板书并领读) to say this. The man is angry with the monkeys. (领读)
T: What does the man do?
Ss: He waves his hands, jumps up and down, and tells the monkeys to give his hats back.
T: Great! give...back (板书并领读) → give my hats back, give it back. And the little monkey asks: Is he dancing? Do the other monkeys agree?
Ss: No, they don’t.
T: What do they think?
S4: Monkey 2 thinks the man is angry with them. Monkey 3 thinks the man is so funny.
T: Perfect! Monkey 3 says “Let’s do the same!”. What does “do the same” mean?
Ss: Do what the man does.
T: Yes! Let’s read Part 3 together, with feelings. The man is angry, so read his words loudly. The monkeys are funny, read softly. Ready?
Ss: Ready!

Part 4 & 5 The man’s idea (课件Part Ⅳ & Ⅴ)
T: The man waves and jumps, the monkeys do the same. Then what does the man do? Let’s watch Part 4 and 5 together. (播放课件Part Ⅳ & Ⅴ音频/动画)
After watching
T: First question: What does the man do then?
Ss: He turns round and round.
T: And the monkeys do the same again. Then the man has an idea. What does he do?
Ss: He throws his hat on the ground.
T: throw /θrəʊ/ (领读) → throw on the ground. And Monkey 3 says “Let’s do the same!” again. So what do the monkeys do?
Ss: They throw their hats on the ground.
T: Does the man get his hats back?
Ss: Yes, he does!
T: Why? Let’s talk with your group (4人一组) for 1 minute.

S5: Because the monkeys like to do the same as the man. The man uses this rule to get his hats back.
T: Excellent! You are so smart. Let’s read Part 4 and 5 in pairs. One is the man, the others are monkeys.

T: Pay attention to the feelings: happy → tired → angry → happy again. Your voice should change with the feelings.
Activity 2 Retell the story 3mins

T: Look at this man. He’s got lots of hats.
Ss: It’s hot. The man sits down under a tree. The monkeys take the hats.
T: The man is angry.

T: Then, the man has an idea.
Ss: He throws his hat on the ground. The monkeys do the same. He has got his hats back. Now he is happy.
